Amazing views and interesting explanations! - After 5 hours on the train (it was delayed more than an hour for both Athens-Kalambaka and Kalambaka-Athens), our expectations of Meteora weren't high, but the whole tour was totally... read more amazing. We were very satisfied with this tour during which we visited three monasteries and stopped at the most beautiful places along the way to see the spectacular panoramas of Meteoras.... read more
Pick-up from Kalabaka train station was quick and easy. We avoided the long queries at the entrances of the monasteries. Maybe we were just lucky or maybe the tour itself was organized really smoothly. The guide also was great.
Even though it would be great to have more time in each monastery, it is the best what you can do when traveling from Athens and back on the same day.

This tour is both a visit to exquisite landscapes and a pilgrimage to a holy place. Be prepared to have your breath taken away every few seconds. We are incredibly... read more grateful to have been guided by Christos who brought us on a journey not a tour and really made Meteora come alive for us. We visited the Saint Stephen's Nunnery (the Holy Monastery of Agios Stefanos) and a hidden gem - the byzantine church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary. It is astounding that this precious holy place remains somewhat under the radar and in the shadow of monasteries hovering above. The artwork and frescoes are beautiful and unique and the whole effect of the church is magical. A truly hidden gem and the most spectacular part of a sunset tour of Meteora. Of course, watching a magnificent sunset made for the perfect end to a perfect day.

Amazing adventure! Train depart around 8am morning from Athens, it’s around 4 hours journey. There is small snack and coffee shop in a train. After we arrived in Kalambaka around... read more 12 our lovely tour guide Ria was waiting for us. The car we did sightseeing was with ac, very comfortable. She had also water for us. As we decided not to take a break before sightseeing we went straight into Kastraki village to start the sightseeing. Ria was extremely polite, she told us absolutely everything and more than we could ever learn about place, history, monasteries and monks. She had a great knowledge, good positive vibe and patients to make us millions of pictures. Private tour was more convenient for us we didn’t have to wait for others, if we wanted to stop for pictures we did. We took our time in visiting monasteries without any time/ other people pressure. After all Ria has took us for lunch in a lovely traditional restaurant because we eat local when we travel. And around 6 pm we departed back to Athens. Make sure u book your trip ahead, might be not available last moment. Also way back is little bit tiring, train had some traffic delays so I took us more than 5 hours so I would recommend (if you have time) to stay a night in Kalambaka and go back next day. The level of hiking to monasteries is moderate, but if you do it slowly and have water with you, it will be okay.

We had a great time with this tour. Our tour guide greeted us at the Kalambaka train station parking lot. We were grouped with other tourists in a big coach... read more bus. The tour began by taking us to a 20min stop in the Kalambaka town to grab some food. The tour is well organized with photo and monastery stops. The tour ended at Kalambaka train station, about 50 minutes before our scheduled train back to Athens.
The company also offers this tour with return train tickets from Athens. It's a little more expensive than booking the train tickets yourself. However, the trainose website is not well organized. I got first class tickets for a family of 4 with 2 young children. 2 days before my trip, the train company emailed me and said I have booked the handicapped seats due to technical difficulty from their part, and they changed my tickets to coach class. I wasn't happy but I wasn't going to fuss about it. But when we were boarding, those coach seats were actually occupied. After some stress and communication, the train conductor put us in empty seats in first class (and some other wonderful passengers volunteered to move their seats so we could sit together with our young children). And similar thing happened on our return train tickets back to Athens. I'm happy that at the end it was resolved. But we are traveling in low season now. I can't imagine what would happen if the train was full in high season.
The point of my story is, it might be worth it to book the tour along with the train tickets through a 3rd party who probably would know how to navigate the trainose ticketing website.

Great visit, excellent customer service - Best customer service they gave us. We reached Kalambaka an hour later than the scheduled tour time due to a mistake in our train booking, confusion with Larissa and Athens... read more Larissa main train station.
They sent their mini bus to pick us up from their office at the foothill and continue to join with the tour.
Both the driver and our tour guide was super friendly, driver made few photo shoot stops for us and bit of guided commentary on the monasteries and guide was very knowledgeable of Meteora's history and geological past.
We would highly recommend Metora Thrones if you are making your vacation plans.

We stayed the night, and the next morning, we did another 4 hour tour. This time we saw 3 more monasteries, including the biggest one, the 2nd smaller nunnery and Varlaan. All so stunning!! I can understand why Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
They come get you in a nice Mercedes van, and drop you off back at your hotel or wherever in town. The guides were fun, informative and helpful!! Thank you for an amazing experience!

We took the 4 hour tour from Kalambaka after reading some positive reviews. We caught the train from Athens on our own, which worked out fine, had snacks and coffee... read more on the train. The tour was very well organised and we saw the 6 monasteries and entered 3 of them. More time inside at the first one would have been good but I can understand why it isn’t done due to time constraints. Other than this the tour didn’t feel rushed and there was time made for photos. I will have a lasting memory of the excellent pizza slice at the cafe we were taken to - best ever. Our tour guide and driver were highly skilled and knowledgeable and I felt safe at all times.
