We booked this trip at the last minute and could not have been happier. Arrangements were made for our transportation to and from Athens via the train. Be aware that... read more one-way train ride is four hours so it’s a minimum of eight hours on the train. We were met at the Kalabaca train station by our driver and our guide and had our private vehicle for the afternoon to visit the area. We were able to have a guided tour in one of the monasteries and then also able to visit two other monasteries of the six that are in the area. Our driver and guide Took us to beautiful Vistapoint to take pictures and were sure to allow us time to grab a snack before we board the train at 6:22 PM. It was a long day however really worth it if you’d like to see this area of Greece is well worth the time.

During the hiking tour, we learned loads about the geology of Meteora, mythology, history and botanics. During the Sunset Tour, we took a shuttle to many gorgeous places I would not have found on my own (for example, the Byzantine Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in the town of Kalambaka - it is absolutely STUNNING). Both tours were extremely interesting and I can highly recommend them for all age groups. We were picked up from our hotel on time and got dropped off in front of our hotel again after the tours. Communication with Meteora Thrones was very smooth and I would definitely book with them again if I come to the area! The driver Christoff picked us up at our Air BnB in Athens and drove us to Meteora. He was very polite and spoke conversational English, which was... read more great because my Greek is terrible. Traffic in Athens was terrible so we arrived later than expected.

In Meteora we met Klement our tour guide. Due to scheduling they did the best to get us into 3 different monasteries. I felt like we were not rushed and had adequate time at each location. Additionally, we made a lot of stops to take photos and sight see. Klement and Christoff provided a lot of information and the children enjoyed the trip. The trip ran longer than planned but it was completely worth it.

At the end of the trip, Klement suggested we eat at a Taberna right near the Meteora Thrones HQ for dinner. It was awesome.

We left kalampaka at 7 pm and headed back to Athens with a different driver. We arrived back at our Air BnB around midnight. It was a very long day, but an excellent trip. The guides were great, we saw everything that we needed to see, and had enough time to enjoy the scenery.

I would highly recommend this trip.

Dimitrios was an amazing guide! We had such a great experience. The monasteries are beyond words and truly worth the trip. We were worried about the long... read more train ride but it ended up being really fine, and my kids met some new friends along the way. We had time for a sit down meal before heading back, and lots of flexibility during the tour. If you have a chance to see the Byzantine church in town, definitely ask Dimitrios for it!
