The trip to and from Kalabaka to Athens is quite long and tiring but the sight and experience that you'll see in Meteora are worth the trip and the money!

Unfortunately forgot the tour guide’s name - he moved to Kalambaka from Canada.

Plenty of stops at locations to take spectacular photos and to visit three monasteries (including museums where monks display important relics).

Be prepared for lots of stairs 🙂

Don't bother to pay for first class tickets , they are not available and company send us email that we will be reimbursed for extra payment and we got refunded in couple days .
You can download tickets on phone and barcode will be scaned during boarding.
4 hours train trip was Ok. We didn't expect but restaurant was working and some tourists bought drinks and snacks.
Trip was unforgettable, beautiful pictures !

Although we had only about 3 hours time to explore Meteora, we did not feel any rush and had enough time to experience beathtaking views of Meteora and to make wonderful photos. Amazing! This was a super long day of travel but we’ll worth it, and splurge on the private driver. After being on a train for 4 hours it was delightful... read more to have our own driver, made a quick stop at a little cafe (clean bathroom) then headed up to the monasteries. Learned a lot and got to go inside 4 of the 6 monasteries as we went through them quickly. (Apparently there’s always one closed each day). Enjoyed the private driver so we were able to go at our own pace and walk through between bus loads of people. Had a relaxed meal at a local restaurant before heading back to the train. Highly recommend, haven’t see anything like this elsewhere. Men were allowed in with shorts that covered their knees, women were offered wraps if they weren’t wearing modest skirts or shoulders were bare (sometimes just depends at who is selling tickets.) I wore a calf length dress with shoulders covered and was allowed entry. The sights are amazing, go see Meteora, it’s well worth it!
Figure out metro ahead of time when you get back to Athens, taxis charging 3X the amount they were earlier in the day.

He patiently shared with us the history and details of Meteora and its monasteries. Clearly Chris loves his job and every knows him. Our friends who have been to Meteora complimented us on the pictures that my wife shared on Facebook. Chris is an excellent photographer (very important to my wife) and knows all of the places. I highly recommend Chris and this tour. Book early so you can reserve 1st class train tickets since these seats are limited.

Everything was perfect, we were lucky as the 7:20 train from Athens arrived on time in Kalambaka, where the buses were already waiting... read more to take us to the first short stop to get some food before starting the real tour. The guide was very nice and knowledgeable, she provided also some good tips to visit the places as well as plenty of historical information. The time dedicated to each monastery is between 45 and 60 min, hence more than enough to enjoy the visits and to take pictures. The building are true masterpieces, and the panorama and views are unforgettable. For women, remember to bring a long skirt as it is required to enter the monasteries, although some of them may have some spare foulards to be used for the visits. Remember also to bring some water/food as in case of rush the time dedicated to additional stops could be very limited.
