The tour guide was informative. If we had not joined a tour, I don't think we would experience as much.

It was worth it and highly recommended.

We stayed the night, and the next morning, we did another 4 hour tour. This time we saw 3 more monasteries, including the biggest one, the 2nd smaller nunnery and Varlaan. All so stunning!! I can understand why Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

They come get you in a nice Mercedes van, and drop you off back at your hotel or wherever in town. The guides were fun, informative and helpful!! Thank you for an amazing experience!

We absolutely loved this tour! On our own, we caught the train at the Thessaloniki Railway Station. Once in the town of Kalabaka, there was someone waiting for us. Our guide continued to impress us with her knowledge of the past and present of these monasteries. There was plenty of time to see everything we wanted to see. We went inside 3 of the monasteries, which was absolutely incredible, and stop at the other 3 for pictures. Plus we visited a rocky outcropping for a truly breathtaking experience. Then stopped for a bite to eat at the local village before heading back to the train. Well worth the money. I would definitely recommend.

Meteora - We bought the tickets directly from the meteora thrones- Travel center’web site . Not too much expensive, 92 euros. Because of some issues caused by flooding , we went there... read more by bus instead of train,. They worked hard to find a solution. It was better than a cancellation. Excellent trip. I tried to find the cheapest way to get to Meteora with my wife, but from the distance from Meteora from Athens it made the most sense booking... read more with this company. Renting a car would have been too much of a hassle as we only planned to visit Meteora and get back and our airbnb based in the center of Athens didn't even have parking therefore car would have been to exhausting of a drive and expense to rent. Especially trip taking 4 to 5 hours driving. Company instructions was very easy to follow and we learned a lot from our guide. I recommend this method and company as the best way to reach Meteora, especially if your only planning to be there for a day.

This trip was a long day but completely worth it! The train was comfortable and travelled through some beautiful scenery and meeting Ria (apologies if this is spelt incorrectly!) at... read more the station was quick and easy! We stopped first in the main square of Kalabaka at a cafe qhich is good for a bathroom break and good snacks / food should you wish but absolutely no pressure to buy. You stop there at the end so good for any purchases for the train back too. There is also a nearby supermarket and many good restaurants which Ria will show you. After this stop then onto the first monastery. Be advised that some monasteries have A LOT of steps / steep slopes to get to them so something to keep in mind. On our trip we visited St Nicholas, Varlaam and the nunnery at St Stephan - All of which are breathtaking....both inside and the views outside. Ria was so knowledgeable and friendly, you were always interested to hear the next pieces of information. It was intriguing to learn how the first monks got to the monasteries, how they built them and especially how they got up / down! Ideally, you would want to spend at least a couple of days in the area to fully explore (I'm sure they'd have a trip for that too!) but if one day is all the time you have then I cannot recommend this trip enough! I would certainly book again.
