The Tribute to the "ASPROPARIDES" of Meteora, Won the First prize at the Documentary Festival

The documentary of the Hellenic Ornithological Society “The last of the Asproparides”, directed by Yiannis Floulis has been awarded the first prize of the 11th DocFest Documentary festival that was held in Chalkida on the 26tt of November, 2017.

The result of the contest was a great pleasure for all the contributors, as well as for the LIFE + team for the rescue of Asproparis in Greece and Balkans. The documentary won the 1st prize in the category “Best Greek Short Film” and the main protagonists in this film are of course the last couples of Asproparides.

Among the Asproparis couples, that are endangered species because of the poisoned baits, is also found the last couple of the Meteora region. It is noteworthy that in the past, Meteora was the living place of the majority of Asproparides, but today this kind has been decreased dramatically, with the result of being in danger to get permanently disappeared.

Nature is in danger and it’s up to all of us to save the last couples of this emblematic and migratory vulture. Scientists and citizens from the regions of Thessaly, Epirus and Thrace are combining their forces in an effort to protect this male bird that is in danger of disappearing completely from the blue sky of Greece.

It is expected that in the near future the documentary would be projected in Thessaly, Epirus and Thrace in order to inform all citizens about this issue.
