We absolutely loved this tour! On our own, we caught the train at the Thessaloniki Railway Station. All tickets and instructions were sent to us the day before so we... read more had plenty of time to prepare for our trip. Train times were given on the tickets. Once in the town of Kalabaka, there was someone waiting for us. Our guide continued to impress us with her knowledge of the past and present of these monasteries. There was plenty of time to see everything we wanted to see. We went inside 3 of the monasteries, which was absolutely incredible, and stop at the other 3 for pictures. Plus we visited a rocky outcropping for a truly breathtaking experience. Then stopped for a bite to eat at the local village before heading back to the train. Well worth the money. I would definitely recommend.

Meteora Thrones as a tour agency for your visit to the magical monasteries is highly recommended. Chris, our tour guide, was a funny big man who has extensive knowledge when... read more it comes to Meteora and Kalabaka/Kalambaka. He did give us a much needed historical significance of the area from where the name arrived along with the circa dates and the legends and stories associated with the rocks. Also, combined with his humor, he informed us about the commercial aspect of the place regarding movie and ad shoots.
They waited for us because our train arrived 40 mins late from Athens, but still managed to cover the trip at a good pace giving us ample time to enjoy the views and stops.
This place gives a heavenly feel and should be on a must visit list when coming to Athens. Train to train tour by Meteora Thrones proves to be an excellent value of money when you book your own train ticket and buy this short tour ticket with them in advance. No hassle.

We stayed the night, and the next morning, we did another 4 hour tour. This time we saw 3 more monasteries, including the biggest one, the 2nd smaller nunnery and Varlaan. All so stunning!! I can understand why Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
They come get you in a nice Mercedes van, and drop you off back at your hotel or wherever in town. The guides were fun, informative and helpful!! Thank you for an amazing experience!

With a seven-headed group of friends from Belgium we booked a one-day Meteora visit, including train tickets, bus rides, tour guide, free leisure time, and lots of breathtaking views and... read more opportunities. Tour guide Harry was funny and amusing, bus driver Socrates seemed skilled (and courteous towards us and other road users), and together they managed to get a whole group of tourists wherever they wanted to get them, on time, with even lots of time to spend exploring the monasteries, and extra time for pictures of amazing views of, and on boulder-like formations.

I did this tour together with my two children (11 and 14 years old) and my husband. We knew it was going to be a long day with spending 8... read more hours in total on the train, but we were really interested to visit this unique area of Greece. We brought our simit, coffees and water on the train, but there was a bar car as well selling drinks and snacks. The morning train ride is great as you get to see the beautiful landscape of rural Greece. We arrived and got picked up by our tour guide Fotini and our driver Thanos. We had booked a private tour so we got a whole van to ourselves. That way we also had the flexibility to choose which monasteries to visit and do it at our own pace. We loved the tour very much. Fotini was very knowledgable and we learnt heaps. At the end of the afternoon they dropped us off at a fabulous restaurant (Metheora) as we told them that we are foodies and love to eat! After our fantastic meal they picked us up again and dropped us off at the station. The journey back is long and it was dark, so we napped a bit. Although it's a very long day, it was totally worth it. I would thoroughly recommend it. If you have small children or you like to travel and visit the monasteries at a slower pace, I would stay overnight as there is a lot to see. Also, some of the monasteries you have to climb up a lot of steps. For ladies, don't forget to wear a long skirt or dress as otherwise you won't be able to go inside the monasteries.
