Meteora Thrones as a tour agency for your visit to the magical monasteries is highly recommended. Chris, our tour guide, was a funny big man who has extensive knowledge when... read more it comes to Meteora and Kalabaka/Kalambaka. He did give us a much needed historical significance of the area from where the name arrived along with the circa dates and the legends and stories associated with the rocks. Also, combined with his humor, he informed us about the commercial aspect of the place regarding movie and ad shoots. They waited for us because our train arrived 40 mins late from Athens, but still managed to cover the trip at a good pace giving us ample time to enjoy the views and stops. This place gives a heavenly feel and should be on a must visit list when coming to Athens. Train to train tour by Meteora Thrones proves to be an excellent value of money when you book your own train ticket and buy this short tour ticket with them in advance. No hassle.

We had a very good time in Meteora , beautiful place , saw 6 monasteries ( and entered 3 of the 6 )

Meteora Thrones Agency - Worth visiting site with this agency - We (two) went on Meteora tour from Thessaloniki with train and we were picked up by agency at Kalabaka (Meteora city). Tickets were organized by Meteora Thrones agency and sent... read more to me by mail a few days before tour. We took 1st class, what is worth spending if you like to have a reserved seat in comfortable coupe with electrical plugs for PC/mobile. Second class has lower comfort, no reservation and no plugs.
Tour was absolutelly very well organized in time and as well for the guide which said many interesting facts. The van was comfortable, and the points we were let go for exploring were so close to entrances that we did not have to walk many stairs.
The only problem on this tour is getting right information on trainstations, as we had to change train in one town ..... There are no displays showing any info of the forcoming trains; there is no display/sign on the train itself where it is going; there is no large visual sign/display on the trainstation with the name of the station/city; people working at suburban train station do not speak english; infomation of forthcoming stations in train are only in greek; ... all-in-all train service in Greece is a very badly organized disaster!
On opposite, Meteora Thrones Agency worked perfectlly well. Worth taking.

We had a great time with this tour. Our tour guide greeted us at the Kalambaka train station parking lot. We were grouped with other tourists in a big coach... read more bus. The tour began by taking us to a 20min stop in the Kalambaka town to grab some food. The tour is well organized with photo and monastery stops. The tour ended at Kalambaka train station, about 50 minutes before our scheduled train back to Athens.
The company also offers this tour with return train tickets from Athens. It's a little more expensive than booking the train tickets yourself. However, the trainose website is not well organized. I got first class tickets for a family of 4 with 2 young children. 2 days before my trip, the train company emailed me and said I have booked the handicapped seats due to technical difficulty from their part, and they changed my tickets to coach class. I wasn't happy but I wasn't going to fuss about it. But when we were boarding, those coach seats were actually occupied. After some stress and communication, the train conductor put us in empty seats in first class (and some other wonderful passengers volunteered to move their seats so we could sit together with our young children). And similar thing happened on our return train tickets back to Athens. I'm happy that at the end it was resolved. But we are traveling in low season now. I can't imagine what would happen if the train was full in high season.
The point of my story is, it might be worth it to book the tour along with the train tickets through a 3rd party who probably would know how to navigate the trainose ticketing website.
